Before they crossed the river, Joshua sent in two spies to look over the land that they were about to enter. They went in the land, where they stayed and hid at the home of Rahab, a prostitute in the town. The king approached her about it but she told them she didn't know where they went. After it was safe to flee, she helped them escape, only on the condition that she and her family be spared when they came back to overtake the city. They then devised a plan, that she hang a scarlet cord outside the window which they would escape from. This scarlet cord would let them know where she and her family were.
On the day of attack, salvation came to Rahab and her family due to a scarlet cord. There is a scarlet cord extended to us as well. It is through the blood of Jesus that flowed from His hands and feet. Because of His death on the cross, we too can be covered by the blood and given salvation. That salvation for Rahab let her enter the Promised Land with the rest of the Israelites. When we take hold of that scarlet cord, trusting it for our salvation, we too will enter the Promised Land of Heaven.
